It is very dangerous to proceed into an area where loads or items are suspended from the cranes, on forklifts or on jacks.  Hoists supplied should always be used to prevent accident and injuries from arising. The driver of the crane should always have a clear vision and should never be limited or obstructed.  If in high winds, all loads must be secured and a back up sling should be used.

Special safety requirements should be followed when associating with cranes such as:

  • Only certified personnel’s should operate cranes and anyone requested to assist the personnel controlling the crane should be trained and educated before.
  • All activities on or around the crane should be planned before the operation of the crane.
  • Always keep an eye out for overhead wires i.e. Powerlines.
  • Lifting equipment should not exceed the required limit.
  • The driver of the crane should always be aware of the positioning of the equipment especially near hazardous areas.
  • Never work underneath a suspended load
  • Work should always be performed when the load is supported on a workstation or stanchion.
